John was born on 17
November 1969. He enlisted into the Pennsylvania National Guard and was assigned
to Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment on 10 March 2003
as a 11B Infantryman. He completed Basic Training and Advance Infantry
Training (AIT) at Fort Benning, GA, on 18 December 2003. Specialist Kulick
served in HHC, 1-111 IN in the scout Platoon for two years as Machine Gunner and
Driver. Specialist Kulick was mobilized on 28 June 2004in support of Operation
Iraqi Freedom III. In Iraq, Specialist Kulick served as a Rifleman. As a member
of Alpha Company, he used his civilian training as a Firefighter and
Emergency Medical Technician to help implement a fire safety program for all
units stationed at FOB Summerall. Specialist Kulick was killed in action in
Bayji, Iraq on 09 August 2005 by an Improvised Explosive Device during combat
patrol. Specialist Kulick's Awards and decorations include the Bronze Star
Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army
Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq
Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M"
Device, Army Service Ribbon, and Combat
Infantryman's Badge
